A challenge for me is trying to be aware of the value of a colour and its application to a painting but keeping the integrity of the colour if it needs to be darkened or lightened.
This was very timely as I am just now starting the Values Course ( as per your suggestion-thanks!) Definitely a more difficult concept to think of colour value. Was wondering if the information on the tubes give any hints as to the value? Thinking about the letters and in particular the numbers that identify a paint colour.
Thank you for this information on color value and demonstrating the visuals as to where in the grey scale the main colors we use in LTP fit in the scale. Also Rod did I understand you to say if my mix of UMBlue and PACrimson is too purple I can mix lemon yellow to make it less purple? Thanks for this clip. Very useful.
I am new to your site as a member Rod, but have been following you for awhile. You hit the nail on the head with this video as this has been something I have struggled with and have even gone as far as painting a full tonal picture (which some have said “oh I like that thinking it was finished?” The good thing about that was I knew I got the values right but the scary thing was now transferring those values to colour, daunting!
This was helpful thank you. Jim

Absolutely true for me as well!
