The Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and is one of Australia's most popular tourism destinations. And for good reason with its beautiful beaches, and stunning hinterland regions nearby.

And for Artists it provides an endless amount of quality painting subjects that you never tire of.

In this 3 day Plein Air painting workshop we will be painting on location around Kirra Beach, Coolangatta Beach & Burleigh Heads

There are so many scenes for you to choose to paint.

This is a Seascape Sketchbook workshop where we will paint on location.


Sketch in any of the following mediums:

- Pencil
- Pastel
- Charcoal
- Pen & Wash
- Watercolour
- Gouache

Rod will be demonstrating mostly with Gouache but you can use any medium that you like that is suitable for sketchbook work.

A great opportunity to collect lots of reference materials and subjects to paint back in your studio.

Note - Itinery is subject to change. We will notify you of changes if need be closer to the dates.

This will be 3 days for you to escape your regular life and just relax in the warmth of the Gold Coast and allow your creative side to come out as we paint some iconic locations.

On the first night we will have a group dinner at a local Thai or Indian restaurant (dinner cost not included) so that you can get to know your fellow artists who have joined us for the workshop.

Each day your instructor will do a demonstration painting, and then assist you with your painting to help you get the most out of the workshop.

How Do I Get To The Gold Coast?

The Gold Coast is about 1 hour south of Brisbane.

If coming from Interstate you can fly into Coolangatta Airport on the Gold Coast and hire a car from the airport. It's an easy drive from there

All of our painting locations will be the southern end of the Gold Coast near the airport

 

Accommodation In The Gold Coast

You will need to organise your own accommodation for this workshop. Accommodation in the Gold Coast can sell out so we recommend doing so asap.

As we will be painting in the southern end of the Gold Coast we suggest booking accommodation between Burleigh Heads and Tweed River.

Last Minute

Weather In The Gold Coast

The weather conditions are usually great in November although it can get a little stormy. 

Average maximum temperature of 27c and overnight low average is 18c which is ideal for painting outdoors.

Please ensure that you bring appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. It can get hot and humid.

Note - Painting may be postponed in the event of heavy weather which is out of control.

 

Do I Need To Bring My Own Equipment?

Yes you will need to bring all your own equipment, painting supplies, easels etc.

Prior to the event we will provide you with a video run through of the equipment you will need and a written checklist

Is This Class For Beginners?

Yes we have designed this workshop to be suitable for beginners to intermediate levels.

Rod will demonstrate twice each day how he goes about painting with the Moore Method of Painting.

While it is designed for beginners to follow along we do recommend if you are new to painting that you go through the Learn To Paint Introduction course and have a go at the four demonstration paintings prior to this event.

Will This Be In The Studio or Outdoors?

This three day event is a Plein Air Painting workshop. Plein Air is the french term for on location (or in the open air).

So no ... this will not be in the studio it will be on location as per the itinerary posted above.

Please be aware that there will be some walking involved and carrying of equipment from the car to the painting site. We have tried to organise the locations for ease of access however there is naturally still some walking required. We recommend you keep your equipment as light as possible.

What Painting Medium Will This Be In?

This is a sketchbook workshop. So any medium you can use for sketchbooks is fine.

Rod's demonstrations will be with gouache, pencil, and pen and wash.
